You may (or may not) have noticed that for a little less than two months, the URL I have used for the past eight years, flagrantfoul.com, didn’t seem to pop up. That’s because the domain name expires, and despite the best efforts to migrate the name from the inexplicably expensive Register.com to another registrar, I had been unsuccessful in doing so.
I thought of biting the bullet and just paying the reinstatement fee, getting the domain name back and trying to transfer it again, but that seemed like too much of a pain to do.
And besides, I think we can all objectively agree that I have, in recent years, gone beyond what the original URL would suggest. After all, Flagrant Foul was but one book. Since then, I’ve also published Dilemma, and soon finally plan to unleash my long-delayed new novel The Gray Summer at some point in time in 2015.
Plus, if you’ve been following me on Twitter for any stretch of time, you’ve likely noticed my other extra-curricular writing activities, including the on-again, off-again Teed Off Redux and my much-more-frequent Cleveland State column at More Than a Fan: Cleveland.
I still write resumes, too, and, occasionally, post on Examiner.com and ResumeEdge.
So, with all of that writing I do, I thought why just limit my site address to just the single novel? That seems kind of reductive, don’t you think? Nobody likes to be pigeon-holed, and here I was, doing it to myself for the past eight years.
I supposed I should thank Register.com for being for its outlandish obstinance while I was trying to move the FlagrantFoul.com name away, but I’d rather do what I usually do in this situation: Chide them. Seriously, Register.com? I have been a loyal customer, overpaying for your services for years, and you act like a playground bully when I want to leave you? Thanks for nothing.
Now that I’ve gotten that out of my system, I have, for the first time in eight years, a new home for everything related to my writing, and it was really a no-brainer.
